{"id":176505,"date":"2025-08-28T18:08:58","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T17:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/2026-guber-osun-rec-clarifies-irev-purpose"},"modified":"2025-08-28T19:17:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T18:17:00","slug":"2026-guber-osun-rec-clarifies-irev-purpose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/2026-guber-osun-rec-clarifies-irev-purpose","title":{"rendered":"2026 Guber Osun REC Clarifies IREV Purpose"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has clarified that the INEC Results Viewing Portal, IREV, is not meant for the collation of election results.<\/p>\n<p>INEC also stated that it is monitoring the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, stressing that allegations of monetary inducements during the exercise were unfounded.<\/p>\n<p>The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, for Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, made this clarification during a media parley with the Osun Online Media Practitioners Association, OOPA, in Osogbo on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Agboke explained that results uploaded on the IREV portal are for viewing purposes only and should not be considered as the final election results.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cINEC has processes starting with collation of results declaration is the last stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe commission monitors the collation very seriously. INEC also ensured that sensitive stage if the collation are monitored by staff to the final collation to be sure of the certainty and accuracy of the result.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor accuracy INEC also makes use of IREV to collate results and not to announce the results. It is not the final result.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIREV is for viewing and not for collation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said INEC will engage the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and other security agencies to curb vote buying in the 2026 elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone caught will face the law,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>On the allegation of bribe collection by INEC staff in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, Agboke dismissed the reports as unfounded.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cI don\u2019t throw away such allegations. We will investigate to monitor where the truth lies. They should give us time. We are on top of the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On vote buying, Agboke urged the media to assist the Commission by educating the public about its consequences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not correct to leave the bulk of the work with INEC. We will continue to educate.
