Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Dajuma has warned members of the public, especially motorists against assaulting road traffic officers on duty, noting that the command has observed with dismay and displeasure the wanton acts of assault and attack meted out to road traffic officers by some members of the public.<\/p>\n

The Commissioner issued the warning through a press statement from the desk of the command\u2019s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, stating that the CP condemned what he described as an abnormal behaviour which he stated has unfortunately assumed a disturbing trend.<\/p>\n

According to the press statement, CP Dajuma stressed that such conduct undermines the very fabric of the law and the criminal justice system, which according to him, are equally established to safeguard the rights and dignity of law enforcement officers in the discharge of their lawful duties.<\/p>\n

The Police Commissioner reiterated that any incident of harassment or assault on road traffic officers and other law enforcement agents within the State will be met with the full weight of the law, maintaining that the Police will not hesitate to bring perpetrators to justice.<\/p>\n

He enjoined members of the public to remain law-abiding, accord due respect to officers carrying out their legitimate responsibilities, and advised them to avoid the temptation of taking law into their hands, but should report any incident of misconduct or complain against road traffic officer to the Complaint Response Unit, CRU, or via any available communication channels or call 08034773600.<\/p>\n
