{"id":177954,"date":"2025-09-08T16:58:51","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T15:58:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/oba-of-benin-calls-for-fasting-and-prayer-in-edo"},"modified":"2025-09-08T18:22:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T17:22:14","slug":"oba-of-benin-calls-for-fasting-and-prayer-in-edo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/oba-of-benin-calls-for-fasting-and-prayer-in-edo","title":{"rendered":"Oba Of Benin Calls For Fasting And Prayer In Edo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has called on Edo indigenes and residents of the state to embark on a two-week fasting and prayer to ward off evil from the land.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement on Monday by the Obamedo of Benin, Efosa Igbinomwanhia.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, the monarch stated that the fasting would commence from September 15 to September 28.<\/p>\n<p>Igbinomwanhia charged all Benin sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to observe the exercise during the period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis Royal Majesty, Omo N\u2019Oba N\u2019Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, uses this medium to inform the general public that from 15 September, 2025 to 28th September, 2025, all sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom and, by extension indigenes and non-indigenes living in Edo State, to embark on two weeks fasting and prayer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is in line with our age-long tradition that before the commencement of the yearly new yam, it is important that we fast and pray to God Almighty and the royal ancestors for bountiful harvest and to shield us away from sudden death and for peace and tranquillity in our individual homes, families, state and country at large.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe two-week fasting period is from 6 am to 6 pm daily.
