{"id":178729,"date":"2025-09-13T07:38:27","date_gmt":"2025-09-13T06:38:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/nigerians-fall-into-poverty-while-others-rise-out"},"modified":"2025-09-13T08:44:54","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T07:44:54","slug":"nigerians-fall-into-poverty-while-others-rise-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/nigerians-fall-into-poverty-while-others-rise-out","title":{"rendered":"Nigerians Fall Into Poverty While Others Rise Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The 2023 Labour Party\u2019s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has once again decried Nigeria\u2019s worsening poverty rate.<\/p>\n<p>This was as he contrasted it with the progress made by countries like China, India, and Vietnam in lifting millions of their citizens out of poverty through disciplined execution of policies.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on his official X handle, Obi stated this in Lagos while delivering the keynote address at the maiden Lagos Business School, LBS, All MBA Students Conference.<\/p>\n<p>The former Anambra state governor, while speaking on the theme \u201cExecution as a Competitive Edge,\u201d stressed that while planning and strategizing are important, they are meaningless without effective execution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExecution that delivers results is driven by competent and responsible leadership with capacity, compassion, and character to drive disciplined and committed implementation of sound policies and strategies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The politician cited China, India, and Vietnam as examples of nations where disciplined execution under responsible leadership translated into tangible progress during the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, era (2000\u20132015) and the ongoing Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, period (2015\u20132030).<\/p>\n<p>He stated that through consistent execution, China lifted over 430 million people out of poverty, India lifted 270 million, while Vietnam lifted 45 million, significantly improving their Human Development Index, HDI.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, expressed regret that Nigeria and much of Sub-Saharan Africa have failed to achieve similar results despite signing on to the same global policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile these countries and others are lifting people out of poverty, more people are falling into poverty in Nigeria, with over 130 million Nigerians presently classified as multidimensionally poor,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
