Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi has appealed to the reinstated Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara and all members of the state House of Assembly to \u201cembrace peace and forge ahead\u201d.<\/p>\n

Obi made the appeal in a statement on Thursday while reacting to the suspension of emergency rule hitherto imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n

Fubara, his deputy and all elected lawmakers are expected to return to office today, following the expiration of their six month suspension.<\/p>\n

Reacting, Obi described the suspension as \u201cmisstep that should not have happened\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cthe restoration of democracy in Rivers State after six months of needless disruption remains a sour side of our democracy today.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a constitutional breach that will hurt our democracy for a long time. I just hope that some lessons were learned by all the gladiators in the Rivers State impasse. Great minds remind us that \u2018the only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cA true leader is the one who admits his\/her mistakes, is smart enough to learn from them, and is strong enough to correct them\u201d.<\/p>\n

The former governor of Anambra State also congratulated the \u201cgood people of Rivers State for their endurance in the face of provocations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI appeal to Governor Similaya Fubara, the members of the state House of Assembly and all the political leaders in the state to embrace peace and forge ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe real mistake is the one where we end up learning nothing.<\/p>\n

\u201cBe assured that a new Nigeria is POssible and inevitable\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
