Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa, PAACA, has made a case for robust voters\u2019 education to tackle misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n

This comes as the Centre raised concern over what it described as the incredible lack of understanding among Nigerians about the legal framework governing elections, warning that this knowledge gap continues to fuel widespread misinformation around electoral processes.<\/p>\n

The executive director of the centre, Ezenwa Nwagwu, made this call at a recent event in Kwara State.<\/p>\n

According to him, much of the falsehood peddled about Nigeria\u2019s elections is rooted in poor understanding of the laws and procedures guiding the conduct of polls.<\/p>\n

\u201cLack of understanding of the legal regime with which elections are conducted has been responsible for some of the falsehood and misinformation around electoral processes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been humbling to see the level of ignorance, and we are happy to use this platform to educate stakeholders and bridge that gap,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Nwagwu added that PAACA will continue to engage stakeholders through town halls and other platforms to deepen public understanding of the electoral process and strengthen democratic participation.<\/p>\n

On his part, Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Kwara State, Dr Hale Gabriel Longpet, described the call for robust voters\u2019 education as timely.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether, we can work towards promoting voter education, ensuring adherence to relevant rules and regulations, preventing electoral malpractices, providing essential services, and enhancing the overall electoral process,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

INEC announced that there were 4.44 million online registrations and 509,929 physical registrations in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).<\/p>\n
