{"id":179848,"date":"2025-09-23T12:00:56","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T11:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/edsiec-issues-certificates-of-return-to-edo-winners"},"modified":"2025-09-23T12:59:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T11:59:14","slug":"edsiec-issues-certificates-of-return-to-edo-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/edsiec-issues-certificates-of-return-to-edo-winners","title":{"rendered":"Edsiec Issues Certificates of Return to Edo Winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, on Monday, presented Certificates of Return to councillorship candidates who emerged victorious in the by-elections conducted on Saturday, September 20, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The certificates were handed over at the Commission\u2019s headquarters on Airport Road, GRA, Benin City, by Ovuchor Suleiman, representing EDSIEC Chairman Jonathan Aifuobhokhan.<\/p>\n<p>While several candidates turned up to personally receive their certificates, others were notably absent and did not collect theirs at the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s presentation officially concludes the highly contentious by-election, which went ahead despite a subsisting High Court ex parte order directing EDSIEC to suspend the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission, however, had earlier filed a motion on notice challenging the order and announced in a September 19 press release that it would proceed with the polls based on its legal position.<\/p>\n<p>The elections, boycotted by major opposition parties, saw the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the only contender.
