{"id":179977,"date":"2025-09-23T21:26:45","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T20:26:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/oil-sector-grew-by-20-in-q2-2025-nbs"},"modified":"2025-09-23T22:30:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T21:30:05","slug":"oil-sector-grew-by-20-in-q2-2025-nbs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/oil-sector-grew-by-20-in-q2-2025-nbs","title":{"rendered":"Oil sector grew by 20% in Q2 2025 \u2013 NBS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, has said that Nigeria\u2019s oil sector grew by 20.46 percent in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, outperforming the non-oil sector.<\/p>\n<p>The report of the Bureau\u2019s Q2 2025 Gross Domestic Product, GDP, released on Monday revealed that the sector grew by 10.38 percentage points compared to the 10.08 percent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>NBS said that the significant difference followed the rebasing of the GDP by the NBS in July, updating the base year to 2019.<\/p>\n<p>NBS released the long-awaited rebased GDP figures, updating the base year to 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The GDP rebasing involves updating the method used to calculate the country\u2019s economic output, often by selecting a more recent base year for comparison \u2014 a change that significantly alters year-on-year assessments.<\/p>\n<p>According to NBS, the oil sector growth increased by 18.59 percentage points from the 1.87 percent recorded in the first quarter (Q1) 2025.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the Q2 2025 figure also outstripped the 5.66 percent and 2.08 percent growth rates recorded in Q3 and Q4 of last year, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn a quarter-on-quarter basis, the oil sector recorded a growth rate of 6.01% in Q2 2025.
