The Iranian government has started consultations with President Muhammadu Buhari over the case of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh\u00a0Ibrahim El-Zakzaky<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, who disclosed this to reporters on Sunday in Tehran, expressed hope that the arrangements with the Nigerian government would expedite the settlement of El-Zakzaky travails.<\/p>\n

Mousavi also said the Iranian government, through diplomatic contacts, is holding talks with its Nigerian counterpart on how to address El-Zakzaky\u2019s health challenges.<\/p>\n

He said the Iranian Vice President for Economic Affairs, Mohammad Nahavandian, recently met with President Buhari in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, on varying issues, including El- Zakzaky\u2019s case.<\/p>\n

The meeting, he said, took place on the sidelines of the 5th Summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) held in Equatorial Guinea.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that the consultations and arrangements that are being made with Nigerian government will expedite the settlement of this El-Zakzaky issue,\u201d Mousavi said.<\/p>\n

El-Zakzaky and his wife had remained in custody since 2015 after Nigerian soldiers clashed with IMN members and allegedly killed several members of the Islamic group.<\/p>\n
