{"id":19109,"date":"2019-12-19T16:27:15","date_gmt":"2019-12-19T16:27:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=19109"},"modified":"2019-12-19T16:27:15","modified_gmt":"2019-12-19T16:27:15","slug":"christian-group-demands-removal-of-cjn-over-his-call-for-integration-of-sharia-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/christian-group-demands-removal-of-cjn-over-his-call-for-integration-of-sharia-law","title":{"rendered":"Christian group demands removal of CJN over his call for integration of Sharia law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Christian Fellowship group has charged the Federal Government to immediately remove the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/just-in-tanko-led-supreme-court-stands-down-hearing-of-atikus-appeal-against-buhari\/\">Tanko Muhammad<\/a>\u00a0over his call for a constitutional amendment to allow for the integration of Sharia law.<\/p>\n<p>The group identified as the Nigeria Christian Graduate, NCG, fellowship condemned the call by Justice Tanko and also urged the National Judicial Council, NJC, to sanction the CJN for making such a call.<\/p>\n<p>The NGC in a statement signed and issued on Thursday by its National President, Prof. Charles Adisa and General Secretary, Onyenachi Nwaegeruo, said that the personal religious interest of the CJN should not be expressed in such a manner.<\/p>\n<p>The group expressed sadness by the \u201crecent call by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mr Ibrahim, Tanko Mohammed that the constitutional provisions in favour of Islam and Sharia should be expanded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis call according to reports is contained in an address to a sectarian professional group of Islamic lawyers and judges at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would not have any reason to join issues with Mr Mohammed had he spoken as an ordinary citizen with bias to a particular religion. That would have passed as his fundamental right to express his opinion on any matter of his interest. But for the fact that he spoke having been invited to the forum in his official capacity as the CJN and head of an important arm of the government saddled with the responsibility of adjudicating over matters arising from the Constitution and doing justice to all and sundry without fear or favour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecondly, the fact that he boasted in his speech, we have the number in the national assembly to cause the change\u201d shows the highest act of irresponsibility to his high office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Christian Fellowship group has charged the Federal Government to immediately remove the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN,\u00a0Tanko Muhammad\u00a0over his call for a constitutional amendment to allow for the integration of Sharia law.
