{"id":1917,"date":"2019-01-07T17:09:41","date_gmt":"2019-01-07T17:09:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=1917"},"modified":"2020-02-13T12:16:16","modified_gmt":"2020-02-13T12:16:16","slug":"why-we-stormed-daily-trust-offices-nigerian-army","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/why-we-stormed-daily-trust-offices-nigerian-army","title":{"rendered":"Why we stormed Daily Trust offices \u2013 Nigerian Army"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its personally along with men of Nigeria Police Force and other Security Agencies were at Daily Trust offices in Lagos and Maiduguri.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-4\" data-google-query-id=\"CMmIhMn-298CFQTzdwodL2wCSQ\">\n<p>The reaction followed the order by the federal government that security agents should vacate the locations.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement Monday morning, Brigadier General Sani Usman, Director of Army Public Relations, said the operatives were at the offices to invite the staff of the company over its lead story on Sunday Trust publication, which \u201cdivulged classified military information, thus undermining national security\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, Daily Trust disclosed details of planned military operations against the Boko Haram terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>It said: \u201cThe disclosure of classified security information amounts to a breach of national security and run contrary to Sections 1 and 2 of the Official Secrets Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt afforded the Boko Haram terrorists prior notice of our plans and giving them early warning to prepare against the Nigerian military, thus sabotaging the planned operations and putting the lives of troops in imminent and clear danger.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-4\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-6\" data-google-query-id=\"CMuIhMn-298CFQTzdwodL2wCSQ\">\n<p>\u201cWe would like to state that the invitation of those responsible for divulging military plans was done with the best of intention in order to make them realise the import of such acts to our national security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe therefore advice all, particularly journalists, not to worry but engage in their responsive reportage and to be professional as the Nigerian Army has no intention of muzzling the press or jeopardising press freedom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe however, wish to enjoin further that they should eschew jeopardizing national security in their reportage. We would not tolerate situation where a publication would consistently side with terrorists and undermine our National institutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish to appeal to all, especially the media, to join hands with the Nigerian military and security forces to end terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to further assure that the invitation is for further investigation and if need be, all those culpable of jeopardising operations security will be prosecuted by the relevant law enforcement agency.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-20\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its personally along with men of Nigeria Police Force and other Security Agencies were at Daily Trust offices in Lagos and Maiduguri.
