{"id":194189,"date":"2026-02-09T14:13:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T13:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/bandits-sacked-village-turned-church-into-mosque"},"modified":"2026-02-09T15:19:05","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T14:19:05","slug":"bandits-sacked-village-turned-church-into-mosque","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/bandits-sacked-village-turned-church-into-mosque","title":{"rendered":"Bandits Sacked Village Turned Church Into Mosque"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A community leader in the Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos local government area of Plateau State, Amos Gyang, has narrated how Fulani bandits invaded his community, chased the residents away, renamed the village, and turned the community church into a mosque.<\/p>\n<p>Gyang who spoke during a charity programme organized by the \u2018Plateau Unite Foundation\u2019 in Jos on Sunday, gave a graphic account of how the terrorists invaded the community last year, killed over 10 people, and forced the residents to flee their ancestral land.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the attack was unprovoked as the people had been living with the Fulanis in peace until the bandits staged the attack all in a bid to take over the land which they succeeded in doing.<\/p>\n<p>The community leader lamented that since the incident, life has not been the same for the people as many of them have been living in IDP camps in harsh conditions, while others have turned to begging to feed themselves and their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were living in peace, going about our businesses because most of our people are farmers. But in September of 2025, we experienced the worst when Fulani bandits suddenly attacked our village,\u201d Gyang said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore the attack, we did not have any issues with them because some of them had lived with us for several years and even spoke our language. We took them as our brothers, not knowing that they had bad plans for us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose terrorists who attacked our village were armed with deadly weapons and killed over 10 people while forcing everyone to flee for safety. They took over our land, farms, livestock, and most painfully, changed the name of the village and turned our church into a mosque.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I stand here before you, many of our people are living in IDP camps facing horrendous conditions while our fertile land is being occupied by the Fulani. We have now become beggars just to feed our families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have called on the government several times to come to our aid but all our pleas have fallen on deaf ears because we do not have anyone to fight for us.
