{"id":194378,"date":"2026-02-10T15:27:21","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T14:27:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/electoral-act-protest-credible-elections-non-negotiable"},"modified":"2026-02-10T16:33:38","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T15:33:38","slug":"electoral-act-protest-credible-elections-non-negotiable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/electoral-act-protest-credible-elections-non-negotiable","title":{"rendered":"Electoral Act Protest: Credible Elections Non-Negotiable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has said that the protest against the rejection of real-time electronic transmission of election results by the Senate is just the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>Dalung stated this on Tuesday during the second day of the protest, saying that free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria are no longer negotiable.<\/p>\n<p>The ex-minister, who was at the protest said he was there to lend his support to young Nigerians who had come out to send a clear message to the National Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the process of amendment going on in the National Assembly must reflect the whims and caprices of the Nigerian people.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate had turned down a proposed change to Clause 60, Subsection 3, of the Electoral Amendment Bill that aimed to compel the electronic transmission of election results.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate action had stirred outrage from various quarters of the country, leading to the protest by Nigerian youths and prominent politicians like Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi and others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis protest is about defending the Nigerian vote and ensuring real-time transmission of election results<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFree, fair and credible elections in Nigeria are no longer negotiable. The National Assembly must deliver real-time transmission of results that reflect the will of the Nigerian people, not political manipulation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenate must concur and do the needful so that we can have real time transmission of results. That is just the beginning.
