{"id":195161,"date":"2026-02-17T03:19:35","date_gmt":"2026-02-17T02:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/apc-apologizes-for-inviting-deceased-officials-to-meeting"},"modified":"2026-02-17T04:29:20","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T03:29:20","slug":"apc-apologizes-for-inviting-deceased-officials-to-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/parties\/apc-apologizes-for-inviting-deceased-officials-to-meeting","title":{"rendered":"APC Apologizes for Inviting Deceased Officials to Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Cross River State has apologised after wrongly listing a deceased Army General and a serving Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria among stakeholders invited to a meeting with Governor Bassey Edet Otu.<\/p>\n<p>The party specifically apologized to the family of late Major General Edward Ushie Unimna, whose name appeared on the invitation despite his death and burial in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>It also apologised to Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Offiong, Prof. Francisca Bassey of the University of Cross River State and Chief Magistrate David Edogi for wrongly listing them as APC stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>The apology followed public outrage across Cross River State and on social media after the party circulated a list of invitees to its stakeholders\u2019 meeting with the governor.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement titled \u2018APC Stakeholders\u2019 Pre-Congress Meeting with the Governor of Cross River State\u2019, dated February 15, 2026, and signed by the state Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Edem Inyang, the party admitted the error and withdrew the affected names.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe leadership of the APC Cross River State Chapter hereby notifies its members, stakeholders, and the general public that certain names included in the earlier list circulated in connection with the forthcoming stakeholders\u2019 meeting were published in error and should therefore be disregarded,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>It added: \u201cAccordingly, the underlisted individuals are hereby formally removed from the list.
