Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for the peaceful conduct of the recent by-elections in parts of the state.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described the elections as a significant step forward for democracy in Kano.<\/p>\n

He said the orderly atmosphere at polling units indicated growing political maturity among voters and demonstrated that the security arrangements were effective.<\/p>\n

Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to residents of Kano Municipal and Ungogo State Assembly constituencies, where the elections were held, for turning out peacefully and cooperating with officials.<\/p>\n

He also praised political parties and other stakeholders, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), for adhering to the rules and refraining from actions that could have caused unrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the first time in recent history, we witnessed an election free of crisis, use of weapons and any form of manipulation in Kano. This development aligns with our Kano First Agenda. The era of killing, maiming and disenfranchising voters is over,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n

He added that the peaceful process demonstrates that Kano is ready for issue-based politics founded on dialogue, tolerance and respect for democratic values.<\/p>\n

Governor Yusuf assured residents that his administration would continue to safeguard lives and property, irrespective of political or religious differences.<\/p>\n

He further pledged that his government would maintain close collaboration with electoral bodies and security agencies to ensure that future elections in the state are transparent, credible and free from violence.<\/p>\n
