{"id":195920,"date":"2026-02-23T10:23:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T09:23:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/abia-nuj-urges-action-against-cattle-in-umuahia-streets"},"modified":"2026-02-23T11:34:04","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T10:34:04","slug":"abia-nuj-urges-action-against-cattle-in-umuahia-streets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/abia-nuj-urges-action-against-cattle-in-umuahia-streets","title":{"rendered":"Abia NUJ Urges Action Against Cattle in Umuahia Streets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State Council has called on relevant government authorities in the State to checkmate the continuous movement of cattle in and around the State\u2019s capital, Umuahia.<\/p>\n<p>The NUJ, which made the call during its monthly Congress at the NUJ State Secretariat in Umuahia, expressed worry that animal dung was messing up some parts of the Umuahia.<\/p>\n<p>A communique from the NUJ signed by Abia State Chairman, Chidi Asonye and the Secretary, Ikechukwu Onuegbu, commended the State government for commencing payment of arrears of Leave Allowances to civil servants in the State, saying that it would encourage the workers to discharge their duties better.<\/p>\n<p>The NUJ, however, reminded Governor Alex Otti to fulfill his 2025 promise to pay the outstanding entitlement to next-of-kin of deceased Abia workers.<\/p>\n<p>The Abia NUJ urged journalists in the State to shun praise-singing of those in positions of trust but to hold them accountable, in line with the constitutional roles of journalists.<\/p>\n<p>The Council further expressed worry with the low figure of registered voters in the State as released by the INEC and urged Abia State government officials, religious and community leaders to mobilize eligible voters to register for future elections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
