{"id":196216,"date":"2026-02-26T11:20:34","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T10:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/ramadan-ndlea-raids-kano-drug-den-arrests-19-suspects"},"modified":"2026-02-26T12:25:03","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T11:25:03","slug":"ramadan-ndlea-raids-kano-drug-den-arrests-19-suspects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/ramadan-ndlea-raids-kano-drug-den-arrests-19-suspects","title":{"rendered":"Ramadan: NDLEA raids Kano drug den, arrests 19 suspects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kano Strategic Command, has arrested 19 suspects and dismantled several drug joints in Gezawa as part of efforts to curb illicit drug activities during and after Ramadan.<\/p>\n<p>This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Kano, by the command\u2019s Public Relations Officer, Mr Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari.<\/p>\n<p>Muhammad-Maigatari quoted the State Commander of the agency, Mr Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, as saying that the operation was conducted as part of the command\u2019s ongoing \u201cOperation Ramadan Mubarak\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said the operation aimed at safeguarding public health and preserving the sanctity of Ramadan.<\/p>\n<p>The NDLEA spokesman added the agency carried out the operation following credible intelligence from a concerned community member,adding various illicit substances were recovered during the operation.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, items seized during the operation include cannabis sativa, diazepam, Exol-5, a street drug popularly known as \u201cSuck and Die,\u201d pregabalin tablets and other controlled substances.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the recovered exhibits were currently in NDLEA custody, while investigations were ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur objective is to ensure safe streets and enable residents to observe a peaceful and fulfilling Ramadan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf some individuals disregard their faith, health and the safety of others, the agency will act decisively to protect the wider community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The commander commended members of the public for providing useful intelligence and urged continued cooperation to combat drug abuse and trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the operation aligned with the directive of the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, retired Brig.-Gen.
