Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Buba Galadima, has slammed the APC-led government and the National Assembly, accusing them of fear and selective prosecution in pushing the proposed Electoral Act amendment.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Channels TV\u2019s Politics Today, Galadima said, \u201cTechnically, the entire law itself was an amendment to another law. What stops them from amending this one also? And we are angry. We shouldn\u2019t be the only people angry. You should be more concerned.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause if things happen, I don\u2019t think you can afford running from this place, a rich fellow doing in Kwara. You can\u2019t do that. So, we are trying to save the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

He accused the APC-led government of fear, adding, \u201cThese people in the 10th Assembly and the government of APC, they don\u2019t even know that by their actions, they hurt themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey make themselves hated by citizens, groups, and other political interests in the country. They say they have 32 governors, or 36, I don\u2019t know how many out of 36 they have and they are afraid to face a free and fair election.\u201d<\/p>\n

Galadima questioned the justification for selective opposition, saying, \u201cIf they have performed, what stops them from naturally improving on what they had before? They are so jittery, so confused, so afraid that they have to coerce people by using institutions of government, stifle opposition, stifle free speech, jail people, send people to prison. They think they will be the last to govern in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n

He further pointed out, \u201cYou are not aware that in Kano yesterday there was a massive demonstration by young men and women who accused the Director of State Security in Kano of aligning with and becoming a bodyguard for the governor of Kano? You don\u2019t know that Ero is in prison? You don\u2019t know that Malami is in prison? Which of them can swear by the Quran or the Bible that they haven\u2019t done worse things than Malami and Ero did?\u201d<\/p>\n

He also questioned the honesty of lawmakers behind the bill, saying, \u201cI\u2019m not saying the government is wrong for prosecuting Malami and Ero, but why are they selective? Some of those who presided over the amendment of this bill are accused of stealing 500 billion naira of Nigerian taxpayers\u2019 money, and they are presiding over our destiny.\u201d<\/p>\n
