Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State has criticized opposition parties for their new calls to amend the Electoral Act, saying the idea is not well thought out and doesn\u2019t have real meaning.<\/p>\n

It called on the opposition to stop the never-ending fighting, get back to real political work, and provide Nigerians with solid choices.<\/p>\n

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, on Thursday, the Lagos State branch of the ruling party expressed disappointed with the actions of some opposition members who are pushing for a new look at the 2022 electoral law.<\/p>\n

The party said the calls for changes were not based on real democratic improvements but were more about responding to their recent election losses, noting that the opposition politicians didn\u2019t organize well and didn\u2019t offer real choices to voters.<\/p>\n

According to the APC, parties that had trouble sending polling agents to different voting areas during the recent by-elections couldn\u2019t really challenge the results of the elections.<\/p>\n

The statement said that winning elections needs organization, strong local support, and being ready, not the kind of dramatic anger or protests that get a lot of media attention.<\/p>\n

The party said the current laws, made by Nigeria\u2019s National Assembly and carried out by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), should be used in a positive way instead of being openly criticized.<\/p>\n

It said that any future look at the Electoral Act should be based on the country\u2019s interests, real data, and respect for institutions, not on political complaints.<\/p>\n

The statement reads: \u201cThe Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has read with great disappointment the report from a media session that talks about new demands from some opposition groups to change the Electoral Act 2022 again.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat Nigerians are seeing is not genuine efforts to push for change, but a show of poor skills, weakness, and lack of real commitment from opposition leaders. Their idea of democracy is just empty talk, press events, and planned protests. It\u2019s very ironic that groups and people who have often failed to organize properly, come up with clear plans, or present real election promises are now telling the country what democracy should be.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe opposition has kept letting Nigerians down by making a lot of noise without real ideas, causing trouble instead of finding solutions, and spreading fake stories instead of creating good plans. Instead of working together within the laws made by Nigeria\u2019s National Assembly and carried out by the Independent National Electoral Commission, they have gone for the usual way of blaming others and making a big show of anger.<\/p>\n

\u201cExpecting to win without having a plan, being ready, or having support from the people isn\u2019t real activism; it\u2019s just unrealistic politics. Democracy cannot be kept alive just by speeches and demonstrations. It works best when there is a clear vision, strong skills, good planning, and the capacity to gain the support of the people. Until the opposition shows these qualities, it will continue to be the main target of our democratic process \u2014 full of loud talk but lacking real content.<\/p>\n

\u201cNigeria needs a strong and responsible opposition. What it currently has is a group of people who never stop complaining and are not willing to face their own problems. We ask them to stop this constant fighting, get back to real politics, and give Nigerians real choices \u2013 if they can.\u201d<\/p>\n
