A High Court in Kano has sentenced two men to death by hanging for killing a newly married man during a robbery.<\/p>\n
The court found Aliyu Hussaini and Amir Zakariyya guilty of conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide over the death of Yazid Haruna.<\/p>\n
The prosecution told the court that the incident occurred on June 11, 2025, at about 2:47 am in Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters, Kano.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecutor, Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, the two men armed themselves with long knives and machetes before attacking the victim.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey robbed the victim of his two mobile phones and N19,500 and stabbed him in the stomach, chest and head, which led to his death,\u201d the prosecutor said.<\/p>\n
The state presented three witnesses and medical reports to support its case.<\/p>\n
However, the two defendants denied committing the crime.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor said their actions violated Sections 97(1), 298(c) and 221(a) of the Penal Code Laws of Kano State.<\/p>\n
The defence lawyer, Haruna Saleh-Zakariyya, asked the court to show mercy after presenting the defendants to testify in their own defence.<\/p>\n
In her judgment, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe action of the defendants is inhuman. The robbery of phones has become rampant,\u201d the judge said.<\/p>\n
She sentenced both men to one year in prison each for conspiracy and life imprisonment for armed robbery, before sentencing them to death by hanging for culpable homicide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
