Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Residents of Jato Aka in Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, held a mass burial on Thursday for victims of last week\u2019s deadly attack.<\/p>\n

The mass burial brings closure to grieving families after an earlier restriction on burials by local authorities.<\/p>\n

The burial followed days of mourning and uncertainty after authorities reportedly placed a temporary ban during a visit by government officials, including a visiting US humanitarian, Alex Barbir, and others. The restriction delayed funeral rites for those killed in the violence.<\/p>\n

Families gathered in large numbers as the remains of the victims were finally committed to the earth in a solemn ceremony marked by tears and anguish.<\/p>\n

Among those affected was the family of Chief Fabian Yaga, who lost loved ones in the attack. Community members described the loss as devastating, with many households thrown into grief.<\/p>\n

The incident has once again highlighted the worsening insecurity in parts of Benue State, where rural communities continue to face violent attacks.<\/p>\n

A resident, who identified himself as an internally displaced person, lamented the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cLosing loved ones suddenly to violence is a pain beyond words. Only God remains our refuge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A mourner and community leader, Bem Gbande, simply prayed for the departed, saying, ay their souls rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another mourner, Ibya Tyokase, said they have been crying, and no one seems to hear them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we say there is Christian genocide going on, some people won\u2019t believe it. But right here are corpses of Christians,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
