Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has directed all council members and political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign positions.<\/p>\n

The directive was issued on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau, according to a statement by the governor\u2019s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.<\/p>\n

The decision, the statement noted, is in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, as well as the 2027 election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, Governor Dauda Lawal presided over the 64th Executive Council Meeting, where critical issues were deliberated for the development of Zamfara State,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn his opening remarks, the governor directed that all council members vying for political offices should resign on or before March 31, 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

He further instructed the Secretary to the State Government to issue a circular mandating all political appointees seeking elective positions to step down before the deadline.<\/p>\n

Similarly, the Head of Service has been directed to notify civil servants with political ambitions to resign in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe governor instructed the Secretary of the State Government to issue a circular to all political appointees aspiring for elective offices, requiring them to resign from their appointments before the due date.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Head of Service is directed to issue the same to all Civil Servants who nurse the aspiration to contest an election,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
