{"id":197719,"date":"2026-03-26T18:25:48","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T17:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/efcc-denies-link-between-ilorin-raid-and-student-protest"},"modified":"2026-03-26T20:50:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T19:50:26","slug":"efcc-denies-link-between-ilorin-raid-and-student-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/efcc-denies-link-between-ilorin-raid-and-student-protest","title":{"rendered":"EFCC Denies Link Between Ilorin Raid and Student Protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed claims that its recent operation in Ilorin triggered a student protest at Kwara State Polytechnic, describing such reports as contrived and an outright misrepresentation.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Thursday, the anti-graft agency said operatives of its Ilorin Zonal Directorate carried out a sting operation on Wednesday, March 24, 2026, at two buildings in the Agbede community of Ilorin, Kwara State, based on intelligence linking the locations to suspected internet fraud.<\/p>\n<p>According to the commission, the operation led to the arrest of 30 suspects, including six students of Kwara State Polytechnic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe profiling of the students showed that all six are actively involved in internet fraud,\u201d the EFCC stated.<\/p>\n<p>It added that eight vehicles suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered during the raid, alongside mobile phones and laptops.<\/p>\n<p>The agency stressed that the operation was conducted entirely outside the premises of the polytechnic and did not interfere with any academic or administrative activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sting operation was not remotely connected to the Polytechnic. No entrance was made into the premises of the institution, and there was no disruption of any activity of the school,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC further rejected any attempt to link the operation to protests reportedly staged by some students, insisting that such narratives were false.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is untenable to link any protest by some students of the Polytechnic to the lawful operation of the EFCC.
