{"id":197731,"date":"2026-03-26T18:27:58","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T17:27:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/igp-submits-framework-for-state-police-to-senate-committee"},"modified":"2026-03-26T20:51:53","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T19:51:53","slug":"igp-submits-framework-for-state-police-to-senate-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/igp-submits-framework-for-state-police-to-senate-committee","title":{"rendered":"IGP submits framework for state police to Senate committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has submitted a framework for the establishment of State Police to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, as part of efforts to decentralise policing in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The police chief presented the framework to Senator Barau, who chairs the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, at the senator\u2019s office in the National Assembly, Abuja, on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, said the 75-page framework was submitted on behalf of the IGP by Professor Olu Ogunsakin, chairman of the committee set up by the Nigeria Police Force to examine the modalities for establishing State Police in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Titled \u201cA Comprehensive Framework for the Establishment, Governance and Coordination of Federal and State Police,\u201d the document outlines the proposed modus operandi of the state police.<\/p>\n<p>The IGP said, \u201cThe report covers the considered views, professional insights and strategic recommendations of the Force, derived from extensive consultations and a careful assessment of the operational, legal and administrative implications of instituting State Police in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is our expectation that the contents of this report will meaningfully contribute to ongoing deliberations and assist in shaping informed, balanced, and pragmatic decisions on this critical aspect of national security architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the report had been forwarded to the Chairman and the Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution as the Nigeria Police Force\u2019s input on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>Responding, the Deputy President of the Senate commended the IGP for his proactiveness on the establishment of state police in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s agenda to fully secure the country.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, under his chairmanship, would examine the framework along with all other submissions for the review of the country\u2019s grundnorm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
