{"id":197881,"date":"2026-03-28T18:10:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-28T17:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/app-sues-apc-candidate-oyebamiji-over-credential-issues"},"modified":"2026-03-28T19:22:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-28T18:22:30","slug":"app-sues-apc-candidate-oyebamiji-over-credential-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/app-sues-apc-candidate-oyebamiji-over-credential-issues","title":{"rendered":"APP Sues APC Candidate Oyebamiji Over Credential Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Action Peoples Party, APP, has taken legal action against the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, over alleged discrepancies in documents submitted for the forthcoming election.<\/p>\n<p>The case, filed at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, listed the Independent National Electoral Commission and the APC as defendants, alongside Oyebamiji.<\/p>\n<p>Court filings submitted by the APP through its representative, Abdulateef R., asked the court to examine whether the documents provided by Oyebamiji met constitutional requirements for participation in the governorship poll.<\/p>\n<p>According to the originating summons dated March 16, the plaintiff urged the court to determine if the candidate\u2019s nomination aligns with provisions of Section 182(1)(j) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended.<\/p>\n<p>The APP requested the court to nullify the publication of Oyebamiji\u2019s name as the APC candidate for the election scheduled for August 15, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The party also sought a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from recognising or dealing with Oyebamiji as a candidate in the election process.<\/p>\n<p>The suit also asked the court to compel INEC to remove the APC candidate\u2019s name from the official list of contestants already released for the poll.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the development, the APC in Osun rejected the claims, describing the suit as baseless and politically motivated.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the party, its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said, \u201cWe were not surprised that such a frivolous suit has been filed against our candidate\u2019s eligibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Olabisi added that the party believed the action was orchestrated to distract from the strength of its candidate ahead of the election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe state unequivocally that our governorship candidate is eminently qualified, having satisfied all statutory requirements necessary for contesting the election,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He alleged that the lawsuit reflected anxiety among political opponents, insisting that no legal challenge would prevent the APC from participating fully in the forthcoming governorship election.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
