Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued five kidnapped victims and pushed back bandits after an attack on travellers along the Maru\u2013Mayanchi\u2013Gusau road in Zamfara State.<\/p>\n

According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, sources said the incident happened at about 6:40 p.m. on March 29 when armed bandits attacked two vehicles carrying passengers along the busy highway in Maru Local Government Area.<\/p>\n

According to the sources, troops stationed at Forward Operating Bases in Mayanchi and Fangaltama quickly responded to a distress call and moved to the scene.<\/p>\n

On getting there, the troops found that the attackers had killed one civilian and taken away 14 passengers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe troops immediately pursued the fleeing bandits along their withdrawal route and successfully rescued five of the abducted victims,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n

Among those rescued were the wife of a serving military officer, Mrs Dami Nehemiah, her son, and three other passengers who were injured during the attack.<\/p>\n

The wounded victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment.<\/p>\n

Sources added that troops have continued to secure the area through aggressive patrols to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of commuters using the road.<\/p>\n
