Good morning! Here is today\u2019s summary from Nigerian Newspapers<\/p>\n

1. The Federal Government on Monday reached an agreement with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).<\/p>\n

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, made this known after a meeting with the union in Abuja, said the majority of their demands have been met, including the release of N15.4 billion for payment of salary shortfalls.<\/p>\n

2. Suspected Boko Haram militants, Monday night stormed Auno, a village about 10 km from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.<\/p>\n

According to fleeing residents of the area, some soldiers, Mobile Police and members of the civilian joint task force were seen heading to the troubled area.<\/p>\n

3. President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Modibbo Hamman Tukur as a Director of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).<\/p>\n

This was contained in a letter dated January 7, 2019 to the Senate President seeking the confirmation of the nominee by the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

4. Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, has been inaugurated into the Presidential Campaign Council of President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Monday.<\/p>\n

This is despite the emergence of leaked audios in which Amaechi allegedly criticised Buhari as someone who \u201cdoesn\u2019t care\u201d and \u201cdoesn\u2019t listen to anybody\u201d.<\/p>\n

5. A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt Monday issued a restraining order on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, against recognising candidates of both factions of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for this year\u2019s general elections.<\/p>\n

Justice J.K Omotosho ruled that following the nullification of the congresses of the APC in Rivers state, the direct and indirect primaries conducted by both factions of the party were built on nothing.<\/p>\n

6. Mrs Petra Akiti Oyegbule, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kogi State Governor, has resigned her position.<\/p>\n

In her resignation letter, the former CPS thanked Governor Yahaya Bello for giving her the opportunity to serve, she, however, promised to support President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s second term bid.<\/p>\n

7. The military in Gabon on Monday attempted to seize power from the President Ali Bongo-led government in the country.<\/p>\n

Soldiers in the West African country said they launched a coup to restore democracy after taking control of the national radio station in the early hours of Monday to read a short statement announcing a \u201cNational Restoration Council\u201d.<\/p>\n

8. The Nigeria Police Force have given update on the health condition of the lawmaker representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye.<\/p>\n

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Medical, Mr Kaomi Ahmadu, speaking to reporters at the Police Hospital, Garki in Abuja, said Melaye was in good health.<\/p>\n

9. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to \u201cimmediately release\u201d Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye from Police custody.<\/p>\n

The former Vice President said Melaye\u2019s continued detention was unjust.<\/p>\n

10. The family of a National Commissioner at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Amina Zakari, has said contrary to widespread belief, the INEC chief \u201cis not a blood relation of the President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n

A statement by the family\u2019s spokesperson, Isah Zakari, said the rumours were \u201cblatant lies and a campaign of calumny orchestrated to pull her down.\u201d<\/p>\n
