Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged both the federal and state governments to take urgent steps to ease the hardship faced by citizens and decisively address the persistent insecurity in the state.<\/p>\n

In an Easter message titled \u2018Be Hopeful, Be Resilient, Be Compassionate\u2019, the state Chairman of CAN, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, called on Christians to reflect the spirit of the season by extending love and support to the less privileged, including widows, orphans and the vulnerable.<\/p>\n

Yohanna, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, described Easter as the joyful culmination of the Lenten season marked by prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. He noted that the celebration symbolizes hope, renewal, and God\u2019s enduring love for humanity.<\/p>\n

The cleric expressed concern over the worsening socio-economic conditions and insecurity in Niger State, which he said have led to loss of lives, displacement of communities, and disruption of farming activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge the Federal and State Governments to do all within their powers to alleviate the sufferings of the people and bring an end to the insecurity that has ravaged our land,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The cleric also called on residents to remain steadfast in prayer for the peace, unity, and development of the state, as well as for divine guidance for leaders, particularly Governor Umaru Bago.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us pray that God grants him the grace and wisdom to vigorously pursue and actualise the \u2018New Niger Agenda,\u2019 and that ongoing projects are completed for the benefit of all,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Yohanna encouraged citizens, especially Christians, to actively participate in the democratic process by coming out to vote. He also urged the state government to sustain an inclusive approach to governance.<\/p>\n

The Niger State CAN chairman concluded by calling on Christians to embody the values of love, mercy, compassion, and selfless service, as a reflection of the risen Christ.<\/p>\n
