Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Benue State Police Command has launched a Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) as part of efforts to address the growing wave of violent crimes and insecurity across the state.<\/p>\n

The development was announced on Thursday in Makurdi through a statement issued by the command\u2019s Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet.<\/p>\n

According to Ms Edet, the establishment of the specialised unit aligns with ongoing reforms being championed by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.<\/p>\n

She stated that the restructuring of the police tactical framework, including the creation of the VCRU, was intended to improve operational effectiveness and strengthen security operations in Benue.<\/p>\n

Ms Edet further revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ifeanyi Emenari, described the initiative as a major strategy aimed at enhancing coordination in combating violent crimes and addressing emerging threats.<\/p>\n

She noted that the reorganisation was introduced to reduce duplication of duties, improve accountability, and encourage a more disciplined, intelligence-led policing approach.<\/p>\n

Mr Emenari explained that the newly established outfit would function as a central response unit for emergency and high-risk incidents, allowing for faster deployment of personnel and better management of operational resources.<\/p>\n

He stressed that officers attached to the unit must uphold professionalism and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cAs part of the rollout, selected officers have commenced an intensive training programme focused on modern policing techniques, ethical conduct, and tactical response.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe training is expected to enhance their readiness to respond effectively to security challenges within the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

The police command also reaffirmed its resolve to protect lives and property while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with useful and timely information to promote peace and safety across Benue State.<\/p>\n
