{"id":199420,"date":"2026-04-24T18:41:56","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T17:41:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/abia-takes-over-power-regulation-from-nerc"},"modified":"2026-04-24T19:46:56","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T18:46:56","slug":"abia-takes-over-power-regulation-from-nerc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/abia-takes-over-power-regulation-from-nerc","title":{"rendered":"Abia Takes Over Power Regulation From NERC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The National Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has finally ceased its function in Abia State\u2019s electricity market, as the role has been taken over by the Abia State Electricity Regulation Authority, ASERA.<\/p>\n<p>The state government on Friday, through ASERA, issued an interim power distribution and generation licenses to three Abia State-based companies.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of ASERA, Emeka Onyegbule while handing over the licenses, said the Abia government has commenced the protection of customers from unfair practices and dispute resolution, advising the three licensed companies to keep to the rules by being transparent, or be slammed with sanctioned.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the Executive Director, legal and regulation in ASERA, Iguwo Ukwu told the newly licensed power distribution and generation companies that billing, metering and customer engagement must be fair, verifiable and must align with approved regulatory framework.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d You must demonstrate consumer protection and responsiveness,\u201d Ukwu said.<\/p>\n<p>Abia State Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Ikechukwu Monday who was represented by the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Energy, Kachu Etolue, challenged the three companies to deliver reliable electricity, and maintain public confidence.<\/p>\n<p>The power distribution and generation companies that received licenses are New Era Electricity Distribution, APL Electricity, and Geometric Power Aba.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
