The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt has struck out an appeal by a Governorship aspirant of All Progressives Congress in the last Governorship election in Bayalsa State, Heineken Lokpobiri against the APC and Governor-Elect, David Lyon.<\/p>\n<p>The Appellate Court in three separate judgements delivered by Justice Isiaiah Olufemi, Justice Cordelia Jumbo-Offor, and Justice Abubakar Lamido, held that instead of the fourteen days provided for by law for such matters to be filed, the applicant filed on the fifteenth day and thereby struck out the appeal.<\/p>\n<p>2. Justice I. E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja has summoned the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin I. Emefiele to appear before him to answer questions on why he should not be committed to prison for defaulting in the payment of $53,000,000.00 (Fifty Three Million US Dollars) creditor balance.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Ekwo issued the judgment summons to Emefiele in a case with Suit No FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/1193\/2017 instituted against Central Bank of Nigeria as Garnishee\/Respondent, Linas International Limited and the Minister of Finance as Judgment Debtors Garnishees by Mr. Joe Agi Judgement as Creditor\/Applicant on behalf of a team of benefiting lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>3. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday stated that President Muhammadu Buhari directly abused his office and exhibited the worst form of corruption by detailing the officially restricted Presidential jet to chauffeur his daughter, Hanan, for her private photography event in Bauchi state.<\/p>\n<p>PDP described the action as provocative, condemnable, completely improper and an unpardonable slap on the sensibilities of millions of Nigerians, particularly, the youths, who look up to the President for integrity, uprightness and respect for rules.<\/p>\n<p>4. The Presidency, on Saturday, reacted to reports that President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s daughter flew a presidential jet for her private business.<\/p>\n<p>Buhari\u2019s media aide, Garba Shehu said the criticism that followed the situation was misplaced, insisting that the President\u2019s daughter was entitled to the use of presidential jet.<\/p>\n<p>5. The Benue Caucus in the National Assembly, has charged the Minister of Special Duties, George Akume to tender an unreserved apology to the Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse.<\/p>\n<p>A statement signed by Senator Gabriel Suswam, Benue North East, Senator Emmanuel Orker-Jev, Benue North West Senatorial District, Senator Abba Moro, Benue South Senatorial District, and some members of the national assembly, insisted that such actions must not be allowed to go unchecked.<\/p>\n<p>6. The Nigeria Geological Survey Agency on Saturday called on the public to disregard reports that there was an earth tremor in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Abdulrazaq Garba, the Director-General of the agency, who made the clarification while speaking with NAN on Saturday in Abuja, urged the author of such report to come forward with facts, to enable the agency brainstorm with him and possibly agree or disagree with such claims.<\/p>\n<p>7. No fewer than 100 unrepentant bandits were killed by the joint forces of Operation Hadarin Daji in Zamfara and parts of Katsina State between December 2019 and January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The Acting Force Information Officer, Captain Ayobami Oni-Orisan, who made this known in a statement said the troops comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Airforce, Nigeria Police, Department of State Services and other security agencies conducted several clearance operations to smoke out and neutralise the recalcitrant bandits from their enclaves.<\/p>\n<p>8. A roadside bomb has killed two United States soldiers and two others wounded in Afghanistan\u2019s southern province of Kandahar.<\/p>\n<p>The Taliban claimed the attack killed the service members who were conducting operations on Saturday when their armoured vehicle hit an improvised explosive device.<\/p>\n<p>9. Three truck drivers were reportedly killed along the Maiduguri \u2013 Damaturu road by suspected members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, as seven passengers were also abducted on Thursday by the said militants.<\/p>\n<p>Residents of Maiduguri, Borno state said, the activities of the insurgents along the Maiduguri \u2013 Damaturu road has dramatically increased following the outburst of the Borno state governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum against the act of extortion by the military and other security agents on innocent commuters.<\/p>\n<p>10. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State may have dashed the hope of Samuel Onuh, the embattled LG boss of Ogbadibo over his ambition to distort the long-standing zoning formula in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The governor publicly declared that anyone banking on him ahead of the local council election would kiss the red dust as he has no anointed candidate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1.
