{"id":20651,"date":"2020-01-29T10:30:43","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T10:30:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=20651"},"modified":"2020-01-29T10:30:51","modified_gmt":"2020-01-29T10:30:51","slug":"plateau-real-reasons-violence-killings-persist-in-nigeria-atiku","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/plateau-real-reasons-violence-killings-persist-in-nigeria-atiku","title":{"rendered":"Plateau: Real reasons violence, killings persist in Nigeria \u2013 Atiku"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has pointed out why violence and killings have continued in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Atiku stated that failure of the justice system to ensure that perpetrators of crime are brought to book was responsible for the continued killings and violence in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He stated this in response to the renewed attacks in Plateau and Taraba States.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST had reported that over ten people were killed by unknown gunmen on Sunday around Kwatas village in Bokkos LGA of Plateau State.<\/p>\n<p>However, Atiku said Nigeria\u2019s justice system should ensure that criminals who were caught in heinous crime were meted with adequate punishments.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by his Media Aide, Paul Ibe reads: \u201cA society with a derelict justice system is a fertile land for misconduct, according to a popular Africa adage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be sure that we are one step ahead of criminals who pose existential threats to our internal security, it is important that we empower our justice system with the belief that when stiff punishments are handed down on these criminals, there will be a deterrence for a repeat of this nature of crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, there is no deterrence to such crimes.
