{"id":20675,"date":"2020-01-29T18:07:58","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T18:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=20675"},"modified":"2020-01-29T18:07:58","modified_gmt":"2020-01-29T18:07:58","slug":"three-million-ogun-indigenes-may-die-of-leprosy-others-govt-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/three-million-ogun-indigenes-may-die-of-leprosy-others-govt-warns","title":{"rendered":"Three million Ogun indigenes may die of leprosy, others \u2013 Govt warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ogun_State\">Ogun State<\/a> Government said Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) like Leprosy, Onchocerciasis, Lymphatic Filariasis and others might cause death to three million people in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing heralding the 2020 World NTDs Day.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST reports that Neglected Tropical Diseases are viral, parasitic and bacterial diseases that mainly affect the world\u2019s poorest people.<\/p>\n<p>According to Coker, NTDs lead to Leprosy, Onchocerciasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Schistosomiasis, Soil transmitted Helminthes and Buruli Ulcer (Skin ulcer).<\/p>\n<p>She stressed that the diseases have affected 18 local governments out of the 20 local government in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner noted that several thousands of people have been affected by the diseases.<\/p>\n<p>She maintained that \u201cNTDs are group of infectious diseases that are associated with poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe State Government has treated 780, 657 children in 6,000 schools and trained 8,500 teachers on NTDs in 2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ogun State Government said Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) like Leprosy, Onchocerciasis, Lymphatic Filariasis and others might cause death to three million people in the state.
