{"id":20906,"date":"2020-02-04T16:00:16","date_gmt":"2020-02-04T16:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=20906"},"modified":"2020-02-04T16:00:16","modified_gmt":"2020-02-04T16:00:16","slug":"lpg-retailers-to-get-data-base","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/lpg-retailers-to-get-data-base","title":{"rendered":"LPG retailers to get data base"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers (LPGAR), a branch of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), says it has started the process of data capturing of all LPG retailers in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Its National Chairman, Mr Michael Umudu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos that the data capturing was for both members and non-members.<\/p>\n<p>Umudu said the move was necessitated by the proliferation of LPG (cooking gas) retailers across many states of the country which had safety implications if not checked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the data capturing, information such as location, ownership and level of safety compliance or violation is recorded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen completed it will enhance monitoring and enforcement in such a way that progressively the system shall be sanitised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe data shall be made available to the regulatory agencies,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, more than 70 per cent of the retailers nationwide do not belong to LPGAR, which makes it difficult for the union to regulate and monitor their activities.<\/p>\n<p>Umudu said : \u201cAlmost all the non-members did not learn the business and again they don\u2019t have means of getting safety tips about the business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have often raised alarm about the danger this situation poses.
