The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has urged security agencies to arrest the suspended Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP), Okoi Obono-Obla. Obono-Obla, former Special Assistant on Prosecution to President Muhammadu Buhari, is on the ICPC wanted list for alleged corruption and abuse of office. ICPC spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, told newsmen in Abuja that the former presidential aide had resorted to propaganda against the commission instead of turning himself in, saying that the commission was aware that the former presidential aide was back in the country, and sighted at an event recently.<\/p>\n<p>2. The Nigerian government has said that the strange killer disease in Benue State was not Ebola, Lassa fever or coronavirus. Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health, said the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) was working hard to unravel the mystery behind the outbreak of the disease. Ehanire said this at a ministerial briefing in Abuja on Friday. The minister stated that the illness had gone through laboratory test and had showed negative to the above mentioned diseases.<\/p>\n<p>3. The Supreme Court on Friday, ruled against the family of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, who wanted to regain access to his bank accounts in the UK, Switzerland, Jersey, Liechenstein and Luxembourg. The accounts were blocked following a directive by the Nigerian government in 1999, via a letter written by the then Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Kanu Agabi (SAN). A five-man panel of the Supreme Court held that it was too late for the Abacha family to query the decision taken by the Federal Government 20 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>4. The Ohanaeze Youth Council Worldwide has told President Muhammadu Buhari to grant the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, presidential pardon to enable come home for the burial of his parents. According to the apex Igbo youth organization, the international community is watching the Nigerian government on Kanu parent\u2019s burial. OYC called on Buhari to pull out the military from Afaraukwu, the home town of the Kanus in Umuahia, the State capital. This position was in a statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President-General of the OYC and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, its Secretary-General.<\/p>\n<p>5. An Army corporal has killed a Mobile Police Officer, Sergeant Rowland Tafida in Borno State. The homicide occurred after a face-off among officers of both security agencies over a girl at Makara Area of Gwoza Local Government Area (LGA). The corporal opened fire on the deceased and his colleagues with an Anti-Aircraft Gun (AAG). The shooting also damaged some facilities at the Limankara Police Training Camp.<\/p>\n<p>6. The Supreme Court has upheld the conviction and 12-year imprisonment handed to the former Governor of Taraba State, Reverend Jolly Nyame by the Court of Appeal, Abuja. A five-man panel of the Supreme Court in a judgement on Friday upheld the judgement of the Court of Appeal. The panel, however, set aside a section of the judgement which imposed millions of naira fines on the ex-Governor.<\/p>\n<p>7. Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, has said that Nigeria would have been dead and gone if not for the election of his principal in 2015. According to Adesina, Boko Haram terrorists had already taken over the entire North and were heading to the South before Buhari intervened. Adesina\u2019s claim was contained in an article he entitled Insecurity: What Buhari has done and is doing.<\/p>\n<p>8. The Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday debunked reports of movement of terrorists into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other states in Nigeria. DSS also said the claim that luxury buses of three major transport companies were hijacked on the Lokoja-Okene road was an ethnic agenda. The Police had earlier dismissed information that GUO, Ezenwata and Young Shall Grow vehicles were hijacked by bandits. The spokesman, Peter Afunanya, in a statement said the alert on Boko Haram movement was fake.<\/p>\n<p>9. Report has it that the committee set up by President, Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to look into the suspension of issuance of the United States\u2019 immigrant visa to Nigerians has commenced discussion with the American government officials over the matter. The Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola is heading the committee raised to liaise with the US government on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>10. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa\u2019ad Abubakar has criticized the new Northern established security outfit called \u2018Shege Ka Fasa\u2019. The monarch taking a swipe at elders in the north, described the security outfit as a way to \u2018score cheap political points.\u2019 He further called on the northern elders to call the youths to order immediately.
