{"id":21182,"date":"2020-02-11T16:05:14","date_gmt":"2020-02-11T16:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=21182"},"modified":"2020-02-11T16:05:14","modified_gmt":"2020-02-11T16:05:14","slug":"jonathan-reveals-why-waziri-was-sacked-as-efcc-chairman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/jonathan-reveals-why-waziri-was-sacked-as-efcc-chairman","title":{"rendered":"Jonathan reveals why Waziri was sacked as EFCC chairman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Nigeria President, Goodluck Jonathan has said that Mrs Farida Waziri was sacked as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), \u201cin the national interest\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Waziri in her new book \u2018Farida Waziri: One Step Ahead\u2019, claimed that Jonathan removed her because she wanted to probe some oil racketeers.<\/p>\n<p>The former EFCC boss also alleged that she refused to contribute money to Jonathan\u2019s re-election in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, however insisted her removal was a patriotic act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt must be pointed out that former President Jonathan had no personal issues with Mrs Waziri.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe former President had to eventually let her go in the national interest. Her removal therefore has a lot to do with reasons relating to Nigeria\u2019s interest and global standing which details Dr Goodluck Jonathan is obliged to keep as state secret in our common national interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very important to note that when dealing with the interest of the nation and the performance of the functions of a public office, a determined leader cannot prioritise the interest of an individual,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Waziri, appointed by the late President Umaru Musa Yar\u2019adua, was removed from office in November 2011.<\/p>\n<p>She served in the capacity for three and a half years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Nigeria President, Goodluck Jonathan has said that Mrs Farida Waziri was sacked as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), \u201cin the national interest\u201d.
