{"id":22165,"date":"2020-03-04T15:27:05","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T15:27:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=22165"},"modified":"2020-03-04T15:27:05","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T15:27:05","slug":"supreme-court-endorsed-electoral-fraud-with-verdict-on-imo-poll-pdp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/supreme-court-endorsed-electoral-fraud-with-verdict-on-imo-poll-pdp","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court endorsed electoral fraud with verdict on Imo poll \u2013 PDP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday accused the Supreme Court of endorsing electoral fraud with its verdict on the Imo State governorship election.<\/p>\n<p>The apex court had on Tuesday dismissed the application filed by the party and its sacked governor,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/Ihedioha\/\">Emeka Ihedioha<\/a>, for the review of the January 14 ruling that removed Ihedioha as governor.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the Supreme Court\u2019s dismissal of the application, the party National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said in a statement that the verdict was \u201ca disconcerting endorsement of electoral fraud, which places a huge burden on the court and the Lord Justices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The party, however, noted that in the face of the \u201csad verdict,\u201d Justice Chima Nweze\u2019s judgment presented a glimpse of hope for the nation\u2019s judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>The statement read: \u201cOur party abides completely by every word of the judgment of Justice Nweze as treated facts, which are truly sacred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJustice Nweze\u2019s pronouncement, which went straight into the substance of our application represents a universal view about the travesty of justice that occurred in the Imo State governorship election judgment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is indeed unfortunate that the Supreme Court had the wholesome opportunity to redeem itself and correct its errors, but choose to hide behind technicality to justify and endorse an electoral fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat Nigerians expected of the Supreme Court, since the error in its earlier judgment had been fully established, was to summon the courage to affirm its infallibility by correcting the errors and handing over victory to the rightful winner. Sadly, it failed to do so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the avoidance of doubt, what the Supreme Court had done in this judgment is to uphold and legalize the writing of election results by individual contestants against the will of the people as expressed at the poll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a party, we hold that on this judgment, all election stakeholders must rally to create remedies for this pathetic situation created by the Supreme Court in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/supreme-court-hears-ihediohas-application-challenging-his-sack-as-imo-governor\/\">Imo governorship election<\/a>\u00a0before our entire electoral process becomes vanquished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis judgment will continue to haunt the Supreme Court.
