The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, has said the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline designed to move gas to power industries in the North, will be inaugurated in the second quarter of the year.<\/p>\n
Kyari said upon completion, the gas project would power most of the moribund textile industries in Kaduna and Kano states, thereby reviving and creating job opportunities for unemployed Nigerians.<\/p>\n
He spoke at the NNPC Day at the ongoing Kaduna International Trade Fair, Kaduna on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Represented by a director in the NNPC, Mr. Ezekiel Osaro, Kyari said, \u201cWe are doing everything possible to extend gas supply to this part of the country through the construction of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline.<\/p>\n
\u201cConstruction work on the AKK Pipeline, which is designed to move gas to power industries in the Northern corridor is billed to commence in the second quarter of this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cUpon completion, we envisage that the AKK project will get gas, a cheaper and more environment-friendly fuel, to power most of the moribund textile companies in Kaduna and Kano, thereby reviving them and creating job opportunities for our teeming youth.\u201d<\/p>\n
The GMD also seized the opportunity of the fair to introduce the national oil\u2019s latest products \u2013 Nitro and Rhino ranges of engine oil, which he said, were specifically blended to enhance the performance of engines.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will like to seize this opportunity to introduce to you our latest products \u2013 the Nitro and Rhino ranges of engine oils.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Nitro range of engine oil is for petrol-fired engines while the Rhino range is for diesel-fired engines.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are specially blended to enhance the performance of your engines and give them long life.\u201d<\/p>\n
The NNPC boss noted that the theme of the fair aligned with part of NNPC\u2019s current focus \u2013 linking all the regions together with cost-effective energy to unleash their respective potential for national economic growth.<\/p>\n
Kyari said the corporation was transforming from a traditional oil and gas entity into an integrated energy outfit with interest in power generation and transmission.<\/p>\n
He said the decision to diversify into the power sector was hinged on the need to bridge the huge energy gap in the Nigerian market.<\/p>\n
The NNPC boss added that the corporation was also engaged in development of renewable energy.<\/p>\n
At a similar event marking the celebration of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation special day at the fair, NDIC disclosed that it had fully paid depositors of 18 closed Deposit Money Banks all their monies (both insured and uninsured) that were trapped in such banks.<\/p>\n
The Managing Director of the NDIC, Umar Ibrahim, said this at the fair organised by the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce Industries, Mines and Agriculture.<\/p>\n
Ibrahim added that creditors and shareholders of the closed banks had also been paid liquidation dividends to the tune of N4.99bn as of December 31, 2019.<\/p>\n
He said the corporation had developed a framework for the extension of deposit insurance cover to the tune of N500,000 per depositor for depositors of Payment Service Banks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
