Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Thursday, requested that the total lockdown imposed by President Muhammadu Buhari be eased.<\/p>\n

Ganduje made the plea during the inauguration of a seven-member specialised experts to support the State\u2019s technical committee at the Government House.<\/p>\n

Recall that Buhari in a broadcast on Monday announced the total lockdown of the State with immediate effect to stem the spread of coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The decision was taken following mass deaths recorded in the State.<\/p>\n

However, on Thursday Ganduje sought for urgent easing of the 14-day total lockdown to mitigate the economic hardship.<\/p>\n

He said the people of Kano were running out of food, especially during the fasting period.<\/p>\n

According to him, easing the lockdown will enable them restock their homes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would engage the presidential taskforce on COVID-19 to seek permission to relax the total lockdown imposed on Kano. We are making this appeal on behalf of our people who are presently running out of food items.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love the Federal government to relax the lockdown for a period of time to enable people stock their homes, especially now that majority of us are fasting. It will also ease the economic hardship in the state,\u201d This Day quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n
