A Kano based Islamic scholar, Ustaz Dauda Lokon-Makera has called on the leadership of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) under the leadership of his eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar to thoroughly review the issue of Ramadan sighting of moon as it was polarizing the Nigerian Muslim Ummah.<\/p>\n
Speaking to newsmen on the disparity caused by the sighting of the moon of Shawwal after the conclusion of the Ramadan fast which ushers in the Eid-el- Fitr Sallah festivity, Lokon-Makera expressed concerned over the way and manner the festivity is observed at different times, adding that the occasion ought to be observed uniformly.<\/p>\n
According to him, it is wrong for a renowned Islamic scholar, Shiekh Dahiru Usman Bauchi to order the conduct of the Eid-el-Fitr Sallah celebration without the permission of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, since the SCIA is the highest Islamic decision-making body in the country.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cI\u2019m highly disturbed by what had happened. The point here is the order by the renowned Islamic Scholar had set a precedent that would in future divide the Muslim Ummah along different Islamic Ideological lines. Muslims should be seen to be united, not fragmented.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t imagine the essence of having a leader at the top echelon of Islamic authority having his authority challenged by a section of the Muslim Ummah. We are expected to speak with one voice. Tomorrow would come when another section would love to challenge the directive on moon sighting at the end of every Ramadan fast,\u201d he posited.<\/p>\n
\u201cA leader is a leader, under whatever circumstances. His directive must be respected as it affects the interest of the entire Muslim Ummah. The issue of Ideological differences in the manner we practice our noble religion does not preclude one to abide by the directive of SCIA being the apex Islamic body,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a burden of proof on the shoulders of the Islamic body to explain to the Muslim Ummah in the country how the disparity in the observance of the Eid-al-Fitr festivity originated. It is an unhealthy development that must be checked for future lapses to be avoided,\u201d he retorted.<\/p>\n
While calling on the entire Muslim Ummah to close ranks in forging a common ground for the Islamic religion to advance further, the Islamic scholar congratulated the Muslim Ummah for successful completion of the Ramadan fast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
