The Kwara State government has banned street rallies and campaigns across the state following the recent attacks that led to sporadic shootings of innocent citizens and the destruction of properties.<\/p>\n

In a broadcast to the people of the state on Tuesday, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed explained that the decision was necessary to ensure that the state is not plunged into chaos.<\/p>\n

He added that only political rallies in designated places will be allowed.<\/p>\n

The Governor also called on security operatives, especially the police to ensure compliance, while vowing that anyone found perpetrating any form of violence will be punished.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cAs you are aware, political campaigns have commenced ahead of the general elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn keeping with the tradition in our state, these campaigns were expected to be robust but peaceful.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, what we have witnessed is an increasing resort to criminality as a result of heightened political activities with a consequent threat to law and order.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me make it clear, we will not let our state slide back to the dark era of fear and violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo Individual, group or political party would be allowed to disrupt the harmony that defines us as a people. In this regard, let there be no doubt that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on perpetrators of violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone found to have either contributed to the recent violence or apprehended for involvement would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, no matter their status, background or political affiliations\u201d.<\/p>\n
