Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze has urged Gernot Rohr to assign Joseph Yobo as the Super Eagles\u2019 defensive trainer.<\/p>\n

Yobo, who is a retired defender, was appointed Nigeria assistant coach earlier this year and he works under head coach Rohr.<\/p>\n

The 39-year-old was the captain of the Nigerian national team until his international football retirement in 2014 and is Nigeria\u2019s joint record appearance holder with 101 caps.<\/p>\n

Udeze, who played 35 games for Nigeria as a defender, believes the Super Eagles\u2019 defence needs Yobo\u2019s experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this modern era of coaching, apart from the head coach, who coordinates all the departments, assistant coaches are assigned to manage some departments of the team,\u201d Udeze told The Guardian.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why I think Yobo should be deployed to the Eagles\u2019 defence and defensive midfield.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has played at the highest level of football and acquired enough experience, So, handling these areas will not be a problem for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should understand that club football is different from national team games,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cYobo should be in a better position to talk to the players on the best approach and positioning in the national team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Udeze featured for Nigeria in two African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals and the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
