A 27-year-old man, Bradry Ese, on Thursday, appeared before an Ogbeson Chief Magistrates\u2019 Court in Benin, Edo State, for allegedly obtaining N820,000 under false pretence.<\/p>\n
The defendant of no fixed address is being tried on a count charge of obtaining money under false pretence, Conspiracy and stealing.<\/p>\n
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Iyawe, told the court that committed the offence on or before May 8, at Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, Edo.<\/p>\n
Iyawe said that the defendant obtained N820,000 from the complainant, Mrs Eunice Omorogieva on the pretext of perfecting the bail conditions of one Precious Small at Okere Correctional Centre, Warri, knowing same to be false.<\/p>\n
Iyawe said the defendant did stole the money through the complainant UBA account No 2094523696.<\/p>\n
According to her, the offence contravenes Section 419,516, and 390?9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 48, Vol. 11, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo.<\/p>\n
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.<\/p>\n
The Chief Magistrate, Mutairu Oare, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.<\/p>\n
Oare said that one of the sureties must be a public servant and must be verified by the court registrar and adjourned the case till Aug. 18, for further hearing.<\/p>\n
