The Presidency has spoken on the trending video showing President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari and Adams Oshiomhole.<\/p>\n
The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday visited Buhari at the Presidential Villa.<\/p>\n
As they discussed while walking, their comments suggested that an arrest plot was being discussed.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the footage exposed a hatched plan to arrest opposition members ahead of the Edo governorship election.<\/p>\n
Reacting, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, called it the handiwork of misguided elements.<\/p>\n
A statement he signed said the video was \u201can ingenious patchwork of mischief, extracted from an innocent conversation focused on the emerging incidents of violence in the run up to the election.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shehu noted that various political parties campaigning in Edo have levelled accusations of violence against one another.<\/p>\n
\u201dIn such a heightened state of uncertainty, responsible leadership must ensure that elections are conducted in a peaceful manner and if warranted, judicious use of law enforcement to protect lives and properties of citizens is mobilized thus preventing criminal elements from subverting the democratic process.<\/p>\n
\u201dThis message has consistently been repeated by Mr President. He does not support violence of any sort and its propagators will be brought to justice. Elections must reflect the will of the people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The aide stressed that Gambari and Oshiomhole have a history and track record of working to protect the rights of Nigerians.<\/p>\n
He added that they will never be found encouraging any conduct that runs counter to these values.<\/p>\n
