{"id":30034,"date":"2020-09-17T17:18:10","date_gmt":"2020-09-17T17:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=30034"},"modified":"2020-09-17T17:18:10","modified_gmt":"2020-09-17T17:18:10","slug":"amaechi-gives-update-on-port-harcourt-maiduguri-rail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/amaechi-gives-update-on-port-harcourt-maiduguri-rail","title":{"rendered":"Amaechi gives update on Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Africa Press-Nigeria:<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed that upon completion of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project by December, the Federal Government would immediately commence construction of the Eastern rail line which connects Port Harcourt\u2013Bonny to Maiduguri.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister stated this in Ibadan, shortly after inspecting the level of work on all the stations across the Lagos-Ibadan railway project.<\/p>\n<p>Amaechi said the planned commencement is subject to approval by the Federal Executive Council, while listing other projects in line for commencement to include the Kano\/Maradi line and the Ibadan to Kano section of the Lagos to Kano rail line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have sent to the cabinet the request for approval of two railway contracts, Port Harcourt \u2013 Bonny to Maiduguri. If that is awarded, that will be the next assignment for the Ministry of Transport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso the Kano \u2013 Maradi line, which passes through Kano, Dutse, Kazaure, Daura, Katsina, Jibiya, Maradi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also pursuing the loan for the contract which has been awarded for the Lagos to Calabar rail line.
