President Muhammadu Buhari has been called upon to order the arrest and prosecution of soldiers who attacked #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

The call was made on Wednesday by the minority caucus of the\u00a0House of Representatives<\/a>\u00a0in a statement by its Minority Leader, Mr Ndudi Elumelu, who \u201cstrongly\u201d condemned killing of \u201cpeaceful and unarmed\u201d protesters by security operatives at Lekki Tollgate and other parts of the country.<\/p>\n

In the statement titled, \u2018Reps Minority Condemns Killing of Protesters,\u2019 the caucus said, \u201csuch wicked act of extrajudicial killing of defenceless citizens by suspected agents of the state cannot be justified or condoned under any rule or guise whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement partly read, \u201cAs lawmakers and representatives of the people, we cannot accept this gruesome execution of our young ones in their own country by security operatives. Life is sacred and no one has the right to terminate the life of another just because he has the apparatus of state power.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuch brazen brutally and defilement of right to life, which is at the centre of the ongoing protests across the nation, underscores the demand for an immediate and total overhaul of our nation\u2019s security architecture.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe, therefore, call on\u00a0President Muhammadu Buhari<\/a>\u00a0to immediately order the arrest and prosecution of officers involved in the Lekki killing as well as the withdrawal of soldiers from engaging protesters.\u201d<\/p>\n

The caucus also restated its earlier call on Buhari to urgently rejig the nation\u2019s security architecture through extensive reforms and urgent replacement of the service chiefs \u201cwith more competent and professional hands to assist in effectively handling of the security challenges confronting the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

It also commiserated with the families of the victims of \u201cthis heinous act\u201d while assuring them of immediate legislative actions that will ensure that justice is served.<\/p>\n
