The United States has condemned the use of force against End SARS protesters.<\/p>\n
Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo gave the position of the US government on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Troops of the Nigerian Army opened fire on demonstrators at the Lekki toll gate Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
The vicious attack led to deaths and several injuries.<\/p>\n
Pompeo, in a statement, demanded prosecution of security personnel involved in the shootings.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe United States strongly condemns the use of excessive force by military forces who fired on unarmed demonstrators in Lagos, causing death and injury.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe welcome an immediate investigation into any use of excessive force by members of the security forces. Those involved should be held to account in accordance with Nigerian law.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression are essential human rights and core democratic principles.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe call on the security services to show maximum restraint and respect fundamental rights and for demonstrators to remain peaceful\u201d, Pompeo noted.<\/p>\n
The US top diplomat extended America\u2019s condolences to the victims of the violence and their families.<\/p>\n
