{"id":32710,"date":"2020-11-22T19:55:12","date_gmt":"2020-11-22T19:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=32710"},"modified":"2020-11-22T19:55:12","modified_gmt":"2020-11-22T19:55:12","slug":"fg-wants-trailers-at-ogere-removed-as-400000-vehicles-ply-lagos-ibadan-road-daily","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/fg-wants-trailers-at-ogere-removed-as-400000-vehicles-ply-lagos-ibadan-road-daily","title":{"rendered":"FG wants trailers at Ogere removed, as 400,000 vehicles ply Lagos-Ibadan road daily"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The federal government on Saturday ordered owners of trailers at Ogere section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to remove the articulated vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said ongoing construction works would commence in the area shortly.<\/p>\n<p>He gave the directive during a town hall meeting with stakeholders at Ogere in Ogun State after inspecting the road from Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>In attendance were traditional rulers, representatives of the major tribes, civil society, state government officials, contractors and traffic regulatory agencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy appeal to you (articulated vehicles) is for you to leave the road today immediately,\u201d NAN quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The minister told the task force on traffic laws newly constituted by Ogun State Government to enforce the directive.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that parking on the highway was a violation of the laws.<\/p>\n<p>Fashola insisted that operators were supposed to provide parking spaces for their fleet, adding that government\u2019s construction of truck parks was to support them.<\/p>\n<p>He condemned truck drivers for pouring diesel and petrol on the highway, causing road degeneration.<\/p>\n<p>Julius Berger and RCC, contractors handling sections one and two of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway project, made presentations.<\/p>\n<p>The firms also gave statistics many Nigerians would find interesting.<\/p>\n<p>They said 400,000 vehicles plied the road daily; 3,000 per hour.<\/p>\n<p>The expressway is regarded as the busiest in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
