Africa-Press<\/a> – Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Nigeria men\u2019s basketball team, D\u2019Tigers have started their 2021 Afrobasket Qualifiers on a perfect note after winning three games in Rwanda.<\/p>\n

The Coach Mike Brown team, which defeated hosts Rwanda and South Sudan last week, wrapped up the first set of group matches by beating Mali 91-68 on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Captain Ike Diogu led from the front as he powered the team to their third victory with 14 points, 5 rebounds to emerge the team\u2019s top performer.<\/p>\n

Although Mali won the first quarter, 16-13, they lost their way in the second quarter 26-15 as Nigeria headed into the break with a 39-31 points lead.<\/p>\n

The second half saw D\u2019Tigers win the third and fourth quarters \u2013 22-20, 30-17 \u2013 courtesy of some sloppy play leading to series of turnovers which the Malians paid for dearly.<\/p>\n

Point Guard, Ike Iroegbu continued his sterling performance and consistency for Nigeria, scoring 17 points, 4 steals and 6 assists, while Obi Emegano and Keith Omoerah combined to score 23 points.<\/p>\n

Despite the heroics of Mali\u2019s Ibrahim Djambo who sank 22 points and 5 rebounds, it was not enough to stop the determined D\u2019Tigers team.<\/p>\n

Attention will now shift to the next set of group matches slated for February, 2021 with D\u2019Tigers sitting at the summit of group D.<\/p>\n
