{"id":33024,"date":"2020-12-02T18:09:37","date_gmt":"2020-12-02T18:09:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=33024"},"modified":"2020-12-02T18:09:37","modified_gmt":"2020-12-02T18:09:37","slug":"two-covid-19-vaccines-under-trial-have-90-efficacy-nigerian-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/two-covid-19-vaccines-under-trial-have-90-efficacy-nigerian-govt","title":{"rendered":"Two COVID-19 vaccines under trial have 90% efficacy \u2013 Nigerian govt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed confidence that COVID-19 would soon be a thing of the past in the country as two vaccines under trial have more than 90 per cent efficacy to end the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, stated this on Tuesday during an event held in Abuja to commemorate the 2020 World AIDS Day with the theme, \u2018Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Mustapha also urged Nigerians to take necessary precautions to avoid being infected with the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, we have consciously taken steps to ensure that as a country our citizens do the needful to avoid being infected or infecting others with COVID-19 and with two vaccines under trial potentially having more than 90 per cent efficacy, I believe that ultimately there will be light at the end of the tunnel,\u201d Mustapha said.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cdrawing from this, it is also very apt that Nigeria has chosen a theme: \u201cUnited to end AIDS in the midst of COVID \u2013 19: Get tested\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria as a country aligned fully with the global solidarity and shared responsibility, which requires us to view global health responses, including the AIDS response, in a new way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday night announced 281 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The 281 new infections take the number of cases in the country to 67,838.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
